Definition

The Small Satellites & Services International Forum, known as SSSIF, is an annual forum dedicated to the small satellite sector, held in Malaga in southern Spain. The 2027 edition, the eighth, runs from 16 to 18 February at the Hotel NH Malaga. It is hosted by DHV Technology, the Malaga-based manufacturer of solar panels for small satellites, and gathers designers, engineers, scientists, developers, component suppliers and launch providers working on satellites at the smaller end of the mass range.

What SSSIF is for

Small satellites have their own supply chain, their own economics and their own failure modes, and they are poorly served by the large space exhibitions where they are one category among many. SSSIF exists to put that specific community in one hotel for three days. The format is deliberately compact: presentations, exhibiting booths and unstructured time, with the whole cohort circulating together rather than dispersing across a fairground. That size is the point, and it is what distinguishes the forum from Space Tech Expo Europe or the IAC.

Sessions run across satellite design and platforms, subsystems and components, launch access, ground segment and operations, and the service and application layer that the satellites exist to support. Presentations come largely from practitioners describing missions and hardware rather than from executives describing strategy, which suits an audience whose questions are usually about qualification, radiation tolerance and delivery time.

Why Malaga

The forum is hosted by DHV Technology, whose solar panel production for small satellites sits in the Malaga technology park. Andalusia has built a small aerospace cluster around Seville and Malaga, and the forum both serves and advertises it. The February slot, in a coastal city with mild winters, is not an accident either: it is a practical draw for a European audience.

How large is the forum?

Is it the same as the US SmallSat conferences?

No. The North American small satellite conferences serve their own market and are considerably larger. SSSIF is the compact European gathering, with a Spanish and southern European centre of gravity.
