Definition

SportsInnovation is a media and broadcast innovation demonstrator organised by the DFL Deutsche Fussball Liga and D.SPORTS at the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA in Dusseldorf. The 2026 edition took place on 4 and 5 March, with Transform Sports and the British media company SportsPro as strategic partners. Its signature feature is full-scale, in-stadium technology demonstrations.

What it covers

Designed by the DFL, SportsInnovation stands out for its demonstrator format: broadcast and fan engagement technologies are tested in real conditions inside the stadium. It draws broadcasters, leagues, service providers and manufacturers who come to see innovations work rather than hear about them.

Where it sits

A prime target for football media innovation, with a strong German cast (DFL, Sportcast, Sportec Solutions) and the editorial reach of SportsPro. Check its cadence, often biennial, for the next occurrence.
